Dr. Matthew Shirley grew up in the Saltsburg area and graduated cum laude with a Bachelor of Science in Biology from Saint Vincent College. He then went on to earn a Doctorate in Optometry at The Ohio State University and was a member of Beta Sigma Kappa Optometric Honor Society. During his time in school, Dr. Shirley spent his final year of training under nationally renowned eye doctors at locations in Central and Southern Ohio, and North Carolina. This included ocular disease rotations with Eye Specialists of Ohio and the Department of Veteran Affairs Medical Center in Salisbury, North Carolina. Dr. Shirley has extensive training in disease management such as glaucoma, macular degeneration, cataracts, dry eye syndrome, diabetic eye care, and many others. He has developed a special interest in pediatric vision and binocular vision disorders in children. Dr. Shirley also has extensive training with LASIK consultation, cataract co-management, as well as expertise in fitting difficult contact lenses such as rigid gas-permeable lenses (RGP) and scleral contact lenses. Dr. Shirley serves his profession as a member of the American Optometric Society, the Pennsylvania Optometric Society, and the Southwest Optometric Society. Dr. Shirley supports various charities, and has participated in numerous health fairs in hopes of educating the public on common eye problems and diseases. He regularly attends continuing medical and optometric education conferences and workshops throughout the year so he can continue to provide patients with state-of-the art eye care. In his free time, he enjoys golfing, fitness, and spending time with family and friends. Dr. Shirley values the importance of getting to know each of his patients on a personal level, and accommodating all of their visual needs. Dr. Shirley looks forward to meeting you and your family!
